EasyAdmin2

The New EasyAdmin2 user interface is accessible from any standard internet browser (Mozilla FireFox, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Opera, Apple Safari, Google Chrome and others).

EasyAdmim2 Control Panel

The control panel allows users to get the system status in a single glance:
  • License server status.
  • OpenLM Broker status on each license server.
  • General statistics on license on daily and weekly license usage.
  • One-glance status of critical feature over multiple license servers.
  • Alerts system messages.

The control panel features a Windows-like interface that allows easy access and management of Windows on standard browser interface.

OpenLM EasyAdmin - Licenses Tab

The licenses tab lists available licenses and allows easy management of the organizational assets. A sophisticated sliding filter allows the user to filter long lists easily. The system warns on license expiration by drawing the relevant row in a different color.

OpenLM version 1.5.5 supports Flexera FLEXlm/FLEXnet licenses. Version 1.5.6 also supports IBM LUM, Sentinel SafeNet HASP, Sentinel SafeNet RMS, Reprise RLM and more.

OpenLM EasyAdmin supports advanced features like FLEXlm packages (As used by Autodesk that produce Autocad).

OpenLM EasyAdmin - Active Products Tab

The Active Products Tab lists all the active users on FLEXlm whenever you need to manage license usage. It also allows the authorized system manager to remove a license from any user when necessary. Another important benefit is that OpenLM EasyAdmin makes it easy to identify and resolve the problem of licenses which FLEXlm may sometimes list as occupied, which in fact are sitting idle and wasting your limited resources.

OpenLM EasyAdmin Workstations Tab

The management interface for managing workstations that access licensed software systems. This screen provides all the information a system administrator needs in order to manage the workstations that access licenses.
The information includes:
  • Hostname
  • IP Address
  • Last logged in user
  • Agent version (if applicable)
  • Online (Workstation is online or offline)
  • Idle time (User idle time)
  • Controlled (for supported systems)

OpenLM EasyAdmin - License Activity

License Activity tab is a very powerful tool that allows the system administrator and manager to produce sophisticated reports and track license activity of individual users. The tool also supports the report generation in accordance with Users, Groups, and Projects if defined on the system.

OpenLM EasyAdmin - Released Licenses Tab

Released Licenses tab reports license release (check-ins). This functionality is only relevant to supported systems such as ESRI Desktop ArcGIS.

OpenLM EasyAdmin - Denials Tab

OpenLM reports license denials, and by that provides the complete information needed to get to the correct license purchasing policy.

OpenLM EasyAdmin - Reports Tab

The Reports tab includes three tab that customizes reports of license usage based on:

  • License Usage
  • Project Usage
  • Group Usage

License Usage Reports

The license usage reports allows system administrators to compare the actual license usage to the number of available licenses. The smart Filter allows the user to build a customized list of licenses and get the total usage on those licenses.

Usage for Users Groups and Projects

OpenLM allows an organization to build Users Groups and get the total usage time to users groups very easily. Most companies use this functionality in order to implement a charge-back policy (license usage billing). OpenLM System automatically synchronizes users and groups between Active Directory and OpenLM Server.

Project Report

Project reporting is another unique functionality provided by OpenLM system. It allows project-oriented companies to get license usage time according to the active project, as reported by the end user.

Group Report

Group reporting allows managers and system administrators to get the actual usage time according to groups.

EasyAdmin2 Settings

Configuration screens allows user to set their preferences. The display preferences effects the information as it shows to the specific user.

Working hours effects the statistical information as it is shown to all system users.

OpenLM Agent

The end user tool of OpenLM system. Improves license availability, empowers the user and provides advanced functionality.

OpenLM Agent functionality:
  1. Query  license manager status (and check who is using the license).
  2. Open documents that were closed by OpenLM (only supported for dedicated system like ESRI Desktop ArcGIS).
  3. Allows the user to set the active project (when projects are active).
  4. Gets the LM_PROJECT environment value and sends it to OpenLM Server.
  5. Provides license availability notifications.

OpenLM is shown as an icon on the Windows system tray :

The green key icon indicates connectivity to OpenLM Server.

The grey key icon indicates no connectivity to OpenLM Server.

License Usage Information

The License Usage Information window is available to the end user.

In the following example, we detail a chart of software licenses from two different vendors . The License Usage Information window can work with any Flexera FLEXnet floating licenses. The ability to query license availability from the end user workstation is a very important step towards improving license usability. The license usage window displays the total no. of used, borrowed, and available licenses. A click on the "Show Users" button will show the complete list of users authorized to use any one license.

License Usage Information - "Who is using the licenses?"

"Who is using the license I need?" is what every FLEXlm user wants to know at any specific point in time. Now you can find that information quickly with a single click.  Whoever needs the use of that license at a particular time can now call the user who is occupying the license and request that it be released. This feature on its own has proved instrumental in saving considerable amount of time for users and managers by facilitating faster access to licenses when urgently needed.

By configuring the Active Directory tab in the OpenLM server configuration form, the system manager (or user) will be able to click the user icon and obtain important information about fellow users such as full name, title, phone numbers, mail address, and more.

OpenLM Agent allows users to see who is currently running the Flexera FLEXnet floating license on their station, an important and useful feature for any system that incorporates floating licenses such as Autocad, Matlab, ESRI, AVEVA, Cadence, IntelliCAD, MathCAD, Pro-Engineer, Solidworks, Synopsys, and others. It is also a powerful tool for systems with extensions, especially when there is a limited number of extensions to go around, and users tend to use them mostly for a short time span.

A click on the any of the users will show all users details as stored in OpenLM Users table (and can be synchronized with an organization's LDAP database, for example, Microsoft Active Directory).

When a specific license is denied to a user, OpenLM Server sends a notification to the user once the specific license becomes available.

OpenLM System also facilitates the user to chose the active project:

OpenLM Agent Configuration Form

The OpenLM Agent Configuration form is mainly used for setting up the OpenLM Server with which the Agent will work. You can also use this form to set the logging level of the Agent. However, it is important to remember that the server in this case is the OpenLM Server and not the Flexera FLEXnet server. When you automatically distribute the OpenLM Agent to all workstations in the network, you can use "Silent Install".

OpenLM Agent for ESRI ArcGIS

OpenLM Agent for ESRI ArcGIS is a dedicated extension to OpenLM Agent that provides a dedicated functionality for the ESRI Desktop ArcGIS.

The Extension provides additional functionality, for example:
  1. Closing idle sessions when licenses are no longer in use.
  2. Allowing the user to reopen a closed project with a single click.
  3. Allowing the user to set the software level.

When OpenLM saves and closes an idle session of ArcGIS, it shows a bubble listing the closed project:

A single click on the bubble reopens the project exactly as it was before OpenLM closed it.

Right-click the agent and the available functionality will be displayed:

Select "Recently Closed Documents" and all closed documents will be displayed:

Click on one of the rows to reopen the project.

The user can set the software level easily without the need to access the Desktop Administrator.

OpenLM Server

OpenLM Server is the main component of the system. It collects the license usage information from various sources and stores it in a relational database. The server is a Windows service that can manage and monitor multiple license servers, located in different time zones and running on different operating systems (UNIX, Linux, or Windows).

OpenLM Server Configuration Form - License Servers Tab

This tab allows the system manager to effectively view and manage the list of license servers monitored by OpenLM Server. Since OpenLM server supports world-wide license server monitoring, it is important to specify the time zone of each server. After adding each server, it is recommended that the click "Check" button to verify that the OpenLM server is able to connect to the license server. Version 1.5.5 supports the Flexera FLEXlm FLEXnet license manager. Version 1.5.6 supports additional license servers like IBM LUM, Sentinel SafeNet HASP, Sentinel SafeNet RMS, Reprise RLM, and more.

OpenLM Server Configuration Form - Advanced Tab

Advanced OpenLM Server settings including:
  • Database type and location
  • Port numbers and security
  • Logging level
  • More...

OpenLM Server Configuration Form - Active Directory Tab

OpenLM server can synchronize users and users groups between OpenLM Server and your organization LDAP Database (Microsoft Active Directory). Groups synchronization is complex and OpenLM provides multiple policies for such synchronizations.

OpenLM Server Configuration Form - Notifications Tab

Configuring the Notifications tab is extremely important! These settings allow OpenLM to send you error notifications, information on new releases, and other important messages aimed at improving efficient usage of your licenses.

OpenLM Server Configuration Form - License Release Tab

License Release Tab is applicable only to supported products such as ESRI Desktop ArcGIS. For a full list of supported products, please contact the OpenLM team.
Some of the settings include:
  • The first two controls determine the maximum time each Floating License is allowed to stay in idle position when the license pool climbs above the acceptable Usage Rate, as has been predefined by the system manager. Once the acceptable Usage Rate passes the critical point, OpenLM Server will immediately start to close any idle licenses and return them to the general usage pool.
  • Which folder is used to save closed projects.
  • How to handle changes in closed projects.

It is recommended that managers check the "Solve license manager error" option. When this is done OpenLM will automatically recognize and solve FLEXlm orphaned licenses (checked out but not in use).

OpenLM Server Configuration Form - Agent Policy Tab

The Agent Policy tab regulates the authority of the OpenLM Agent and allows the system manager to remotely enable/disable options available to the end user.
