Interfacing the SPLM License Manager – AN4001p

Scope

OpenLM supports license monitoring of a wide, and ever growing variety of license managers. This application note elaborates the steps required to configure OpenLM to interface the SPLM License Manager, and obtain reliable Intergaph SmartPlant license usage reports and statistics. This capability is available for SPLM (SmartPlant License Manager) version  2.0.0.15 and onward.

In order to configure OpenLM to monitor an SPLM License Manager, both the OpenLM Server and OpenLM Broker should be configured as follows:

OpenLM Server Configuration

1. Launch the OpenLM Server and open the License Server tab

2. Click Add

3. Set the LM Type to SPLM

4. Provide a Description (e.g. splm_server)

5. Set the License server’s Time zone (e.g.: Pacific Time)

6. Insert the Hostname (e.g. splm_server) of the SPLM License server. This exact hostname will need to be configured on the OpenLM Broker configuration tool (see below).

7. Insert the SPLM port (e.g. 4711). The same port will need to be used in the OpenLM Broker configuration as well (see below).

8. Clear the  OpenLM Server remotely queries license manager

9. Click Apply and then Restart now

OpenLM Broker Configuration

1. Launch the OpenLM Broker Configuration tool

2. Click on the OpenLM Server’s node on the left pane.

3. Add in the OpenLM Server hostname (e.g. my_openlm_server).

4. The default connection port between the OpenLM Broker and OpenLM Server is 7016. Make sure this port is enabled by network security (Firewall).

5. Click the “Check connectivity to OpenLM Server” button to verify connection between the OpenLM Broker and OpenLM Server.

6. Click on the “License Servers” node on the left-hand pane, and add the splm server hostname (e.g. splm_server). This must be the same name as configured in the OpenLM Server configuration stage above. Click ‘Apply’

7. Click the ‘Port’ node, and fill in the port number (e.g. 4711) and License manager type (SPLM).

8. ‘Status’ command configuration:

Expand the Commands field and select status. The command line should be

cmd /k “pdlice.exe” -m

Fill in the accurate full path for the SPLM pdlice.exe file.

Click the ‘Execute’ button to ensure proper configuration, and then ‘Apply’.

9. “Data_inquiry” command configuration:

Expand the Commands field and select status. The command line should be

cmd /k “pdlice.exe” -m

Fill in the accurate full path for the SPLM pdlice.exe file.

Click the ‘Execute’ button to ensure proper configuration, and then ‘Apply’.

10. Click “Restart Broker”.

That’s it. The OpenLM system should now be configured to monitor your SPLM license usage.

Launch the OpenLM EasyAdmin web application to monitor and manage SPLM applications.
