Named license analysis

An analytical report that evaluates usage of licenses assigned to specific named users. It helps assess license efficiency and detect inactive or unused assignments.

Visualizations​

  • Named Licenses Details Table: This table provides a detailed view of Named User Licenses allocated to users.

Values displayed:

  • Vendor: The software vendor providing the licenses.

  • Server Name: The license server managing the named licenses.

  • Feature Name: The specific licensed feature or module.

  • Version: Version information.

  • Asset Info: Asset information related to the license.

  • Quantity: Total number of purchased named licenses for each feature.

  • Allocated: Number of licenses currently assigned to users.

  • Available Licenses: Remaining unassigned licenses.

  • Utilization Percentage: Shows how much of the purchased license pool is actively assigned.

  • Top 10 Named Licensed Feature with Utilization Percentage 20% Bar Chart: The chart displays the top 10 named license features with utilization at or under 20%, highlighting excess capacity and opportunities for license redistribution.

  • Filters:

  • Date: A relative date filter. It defaults to Last 14 days and prints the resolved range underneath (for example, 2026/07/11 to 2026/07/24). Select another preset, or a custom start and end date, to change the reporting period.

  • Server Name: Users can select any server name from this filter.

  • Vendor: Users can select any vendor from this filter.

  • Asset Info: Users can select any asset information from this filter.

  • License Type: Users can select any license type from this filter.

  • Feature Name: Users can select any feature name from this filter.

  • Product Name: Users can select any product name from this filter.

  • Software Name: Select a catalogued product from the SAM Catalog. The catalog normalizes publisher and product names, so filtering here groups license records that carry inconsistent raw license strings.

Interpreting this report​

  • Utilization % here means "how much of what you bought is assigned" (allocated ÷ quantity) - it is an allocation measure, not an activity measure. A fully-allocated named license can still be dormant; actual sessions are in License activity.
  • The ≤20% chart is the redistribution shortlist. Features where 80% of purchased named seats sit unassigned either need users moved onto them (relieving floating pools) or a smaller purchase next cycle.
  • Named licensing is contractual, which makes this report a self-audit. The Version 25 named-user license (NNU) report was explicitly positioned for that: verify that named-license use follows the vendor agreement before the vendor checks (Version 25 NNU report). The same reading applies on the Platform.
  • Available = Quantity − Allocated: those are seats you can assign today at no cost - do that before buying floating capacity for the same feature.
