This document describes the steps required to interface OpenLM with Canvas, allowing you to monitor license usage and obtain statistics.
Requirements #
To query the Canvas the following components must be installed:
- OpenLM SLM v2x on your premises, installed on a machine in your organisation or an SLMC account
- OpenLM Broker v25.2 or higher installed on the same machine as the Canvas LicenseMonitor
Monitoring capabilities and features #
The current monitoring capabilities available for Canvas through OpenLM Broker are as follows:

OpenLM Broker configuration #

OpenLM Broker must already be installed and configured to report to OpenLM before proceeding:
- Navigate to your Broker from any convenient browser by accessing http://localhost:5090 (or incremental, for example 5091,5092), if the default 5090 port is occupied.
- Select the License Managers tab.
- Click Add License Manager. A pop-up appears.
- From the drop-down list, select Canvas.
- Enter the Canvas port number (e.g. 5093). Click ADD.
- Select the Vendors tab. Click Add Vendor. In the pop-up that appears, enter the Vendor name “Canvas ” and click Continue.
- Switch to the Log Files tab. Click Add Log File. Make sure the Watch file by pattern is turned off. Note: You can add multiple logs. Browse to the location where the activity log is located. Click CONTINUE.
- Click SAVE.
OpenLM configuration #
If you have followed the steps in the section above, the OpenLM Broker should now transmit data to the OpenLM. The final step is to approve the configuration in the EasyAdmin User Interface:
- Access your EasyAdmin User Interface. Navigate to Start → Widgets → License Manager Servers
- In the License Servers window, click on the There are Servers Pending Approval icon.
- Double-click on the pending license manager.
- Note that it is displayed as OpenLM Generic.
- You have the option to modify the display name. Verify the configurations and click APPROVE.
- Additional: Switch to the Custom fields tab. Add details such as Country, Usage Scope and Description:
At this point, the Canvas has been automatically added to OpenLM SLM, and the configuration is complete. It will take a few moments for the data to be parsed and available. The green circle will confirm the status.
How to verify your Canvas configuration #
To check if the Canvas is being monitored correctly:
- Open the EasyAdmin user interface in your browser.
- Click EasyAdmin Start → Widgets → License Servers. Verify that the configured license manager(s) appear in the server list. A green circle node indicates an active connection to the license server.
Please note that if this is a new connection, it may take up to 3 minutes for the status indicator to change.
