With employees accessing OpenLM in the cloud (or on-premise), authentication has never been more important than it is right now. That’s why we put a tremendous amount of effort into providing all our customers with a secure environment for authentication and enable a secure communication channel to access their data and enjoy engineering license management in the cloud or on-premise. Some of our customers prefer the Identity Service we developed, while others already have a preferred third-party identity provider such as Okta or ADFS. We are happy to announce that OpenLM supports them as well.

Single-factor authentication is a thing of the past

The main way authentication worked in the past was by a simple username (email) and a password. In other words, single-factor authentication. Users accessing OpenLM typed in their account credentials and logged in to the system.

Single-factor authentication is simple, but it also brings many disadvantages. For example, security experts and IT professionals spend countless hours reminding personnel to use strong passwords, not to reuse them, and to reset them after a while. Just think about the security risk a reused password poses to a company, especially considering the databases of leaked passwords available online. If a hacker gains access to just one of the user credentials, it can screw up the whole licensing management system and cause serious damage that will cost the organization a lot of money. That’s what we are protecting against with OpenLM Identity Service with support for third-party identity providers.

Know who is accessing your data

Third-party identity providers such as Okta deliver Identity as a Service (IDaaS) to those who sign up. With IDaaS on board, the organization lays a foundation that connects the people to the software, and in OpenLM’s case, the license monitoring and management software.

Together, OpenLM and Okta (or your preferred third-party identity provider) power secure collaboration with advanced secure services such as Single Sign-On (SSO), multi-factor authentication, and streamline user lifecycle management.

The OpenLM identity service enables SAM managers to

  • ensure users are who they claim to be;
  • give them access to software with just a few clicks;
  • speed up the process of creating, updating, suspending, and deleting accounts from one centralized dashboard.

It just works

As an OpenLM customer, you can choose to either use the identity service we provide or turn the toggle on with your preferred third-party identity provider. Regardless of your choice, you get access to a highly secure access management system built on the OAuth 2.0 and OpenID protocols that enables us to support SSO, so end users can finally shed the hassle of coming up with a password that meets the latest security standards.

The OpenLM EasyAdmin interface now presents users the option to sign in with a third-party identity provider such as Google or Okta

Remembering countless secure passwords is now a thing of the past, as the latest deployment of the Identity Service for OpenLM Cloud at one of our biggest customers reveals. It just works, as you expect from a service that meets the highest industry security standards.

So, what are you waiting for? Start using our future-proof ID service and simplify user access management to OpenLM by integrating it with Okta or the third-party identity provider of your choice. OpenLM currently supports Okta, Azure and ADFS, but if you would like to use a different identity provider (IdP) then reach out to support and we will record your request and add it.
